WordPress isn’t only a blogging tool anymore! We went back and looked at WordPress recently. In a word, Wow! They have added the features we need to build fully featured corporate sites. With the easiest user interface of the big three (Drupal, Joomla & WordPress), some unique design capabilities and a host of SEO plugins we are now adding WordPress as one of our primary tools for new site development. As a design firm, a big deal to us is an add-on we found for our template development that allows for multiple template designs within the main theme. Between this add-on and some of the new WordPress header and background capabilities we are now developing site designs with the flexibility you would expect from custom pages developed in Dreamweaver. We're also excited by some of the SEO and Google analytical plugins that are allowing for some very professional level site optimization as part of the original site develoment. Finally, a CSS image slideshow that acts like flash... and it's phone friendly! We've been looking around for a non flash player script that doesn't just look like a rotator. With a lot of code scripting we got one to have a lot of the look and feel of a nice flash presentation but does not require flash... phone friendly, user friendly and less server overhead. See an example at http://www.jelmar.com. We still use flash were we need an interactive presentation and SWFObject lets us put up another presentation for non flash platform viewers but it's more work and can often be avoided with our new found technique. Keeping videos stored at YouTube solves multiple issues! We've moved most of our customer's videos to YouTube. By setting up separate accounts for each customer and using YouTube's player on your site you gain all the following benefits:
Of course, there are still times when your site page requires control over the video that using YouTube's player will not accommodate and we have multiple solutions for that as well. |
